Child Adoption in Uganda - posted March 12, 2008
Child Adoption is a subject not many Ugandans would quickly get excited and enthusiastic over and yet very few people are knowledgeable about the adoption policy and practice in the country. It is in response to this that, on 2nd March, FOCUS Uganda invited Families for Children Network to enlighten Associates and interested individuals. Areas of interest that were covered included; The meaning of adoption; Adoption viz a vis Foster care; The Ugandan policy; How one can adopt; Who can adopt; the rights of the adopted Child; the role and responsibility of the adoptive parent and the Christian responsibility and response to the vulnerable child. We had an insightful session with Mrs. Nyeko Jolly who took us through the legal history and practicalities on the Child Adoption Policy in Uganda in relation to policies in other countries. This was followed by a powerful testimony from one adoptive parent Ms. Charity Kivengere who challenged us on the need for more Christian families to open their hearts and homes to vulnerable children and love them.
The day ended with an open discussion during which members were able to raise their questions and concerns while our legal practitioners responded. Participants expressed many positive comments of how they had benefited and they also expressed the need and urgency for greater public awareness on the subject to be done especially in our churches.
We are very thankful to all who attended and participated in the discussion and for all who were praying for its success. The next presentation is on 16th March and this time the subject under discussion is the controversial Land Bill. See Calendar for details.
Child Adoption in Uganda - posted Feb. 20, 2008
Fellowship of Christian Unions(FOCUS) UGANDA invites you to a fascinating and inspiring presentation on the topic 'CHILD ADOPTION IN UGANDA'
The key presenters will be from 'Families for Children'-A working group of CarNac Network (Associated with ViVa Network).
Families for Children is a rights activist group whose members are made of parliamentarians, legal private practitioners, Child rights Activists, Babies homes, Adoptive parents among others.
They exist because they want to see every Ugandan Child that has been abandoned be placed in a loving family.
As FOCUS Uganda, we have a significant number of Associates who can be loving families for these children, or who might know someone who would love to provide a home for such a child. Therefore we are inviting you the receipient, to this presentation so that you can get knowledgeable about the subject;the current state in Uganda and consider being a mouthpiece.

Feedback from Mulago Paramedical C.U. Crudsade (1st -6th Feb. 2008)- posted Feb. 12, 2008
Thank you all who prayed for the success of Paramedical C.U. Crusade. The mission lasted five days from Friday 1st February to Tuesday 6th February.Despite the fact that exams are round the corner and students are expected to be hidden in books, amazingly, every evening the School Quadrangle had a big croed enjoying the blaring great gospel music, creative dance, poems, testimonies and then powerful message delivered by a different guest Speaker each day.

This evangelistic mission targeted fellow students on Campus and we thank the Lord that by the end of the 5 days over 20 students had commited their lives to following Jesus Christ. Several others made a recommitment, while others received prayer for healing.
I believe the angles of heaven had over twenty celebration parties and many more are to come.

Once again thanks to all who prayed for success. Special thanks to Dr. Serukenya of Mulago for continually availing his technical services to this particular CU. Thanks to all who made financial contributions and other contributions in kind. Thanks to the FOCUS Staff at Head Office for thier availability and support to the students during preparation and during the crusade.
Let us join in prayer for the Chairman Isaac Akol, his committee and CU members as they now begin the journey of discipling these new christians in the care groups.
